52 steps towards a greener city

📌Pre-intermediate / Teens

Have you ever wondered how we can make space for nature? Ask your students what they think we could all do. Then let the Learning corner of the European Union help you find more ideas with a useful booklet that contains 52 suggestions on how to support urban biodiversity throughout the year!

The 5-minute task: At the end of the class, set a timer and ask students to record their ideas and thoughts. This activity lets students reflect on learning and build writing skills – plus you’ll get a window into their understandings!

Here are some prompts you can use to get students writing:

1. What was the most fun or totally unexpected idea expressed in today’s discussion?

2. What would you say was the most stimulating and useful idea discussed in today’s class?

📌Intermediate & Advanced / Teens & Adults

Initiated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and TED-Ed, Earth School invites your students to embark on a whole month of daily quests and adventures that will help them understand and celebrate our natural world, while learning about how dependent we are on our planet.

Within each lesson, you’ll find fascinating resources compiled by Earth experts and ideas for getting involved in ways that count. You can start with the Recycling Quest to explain to your students the process of converting waste materials back into new objects. And don’t forget to take a look at the RenewableEnergyQuest to help your English learners find out about the importance of abundant sun, water and wind!
